Height/Production Charts

This graph indicates the daily production of an average doe within a particular height range. We used actual lactation length rather than 305 day, so we got a true average daily production for each individual doe.

(Graph is a thumbnail if you want to enlarge it.)

These graphs are based upon the 305 Day DHIR Milk test results. We used only the data from does where height was recorded, from 1999 to the 2005. We used the actual length of lactation, not the standard 305 days. This allowed us to see the true production of does who produced extended lactations.

We broke the heights down into height ranges: under 18, 18 < 19, 19<20, 20<21, 21<22, 22- 22.5 and over 22.5 inches. The reason for this that was to make sure that each sample group was big enough to be a fair representation of that set of goats. We are including the chart that indicates the data graphed, so you can see how many animals were in that representative sample, and what we got for averages. We used Microsoft Excel for the calculations and the graphing, so we would minimize human error.

We acknowledge that this is not a truly scientific sampling. The number of under 18" and overheight animals was smaller than we would have liked, but this is the only data available. Height measurement is not standardized as errors can happen during that process, throwing off the data. There is also no way to know exactly how old the doe when she was measured, only that she was measured during that lactation.

This is the chart that indicates the information used to build the graphs shown. This will allow you to see how many does were in any given sample range, and the actual production numbers.
The graph to the right indicates the average yearly production for does within the indicated height ranges. Note the scale is different from the daily average graph above.
