I, as a breeder of Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats, agree to abide by this Breeder's Code of Ethics. I understand that the ultimate goal of this code is to secure safe, healthy homes for animals from my farm, and for satisfaction and confidence on the part of those who purchase animals from me.
To this end:

1. All animals from my farm will be tested regularly for contagious diseases and in the event that any are found, all subsequent buyers will be notified of that fact. I am open about my testing regimen, and will gladly explain it to all prospective buyers.

2. All goat kids leaving my farm will be of appropriate age to ensure proper growth and no adverse effects from the separation. This usually means at least 4 weeks old on a bottle to well-educated owners, sold with their dam, or properly weaned and thriving on grain, hay and water. I will not sell "bottle babies," to goat newcomers, to ensure a healthy transition for both goat and owner.

3. To avoid impulse sales, initial sale of kids will be made away from show settings, to minimize stress and maximize information exchange. Exchange of kids at shows where arrangements have made in advance is certainly acceptable.

4. All animals will receive proper care, including housing, health care, nutrition, hoof trimming and other needs as they arise.

5. Buyers will receive nutritional and medical guidance in the care of their goat(s), both at time of purchase and beyond.

6. The purpose of all breedings will be to further the development of the Nigerian dwarf breed, in relation to any registry the breeder belongs to, and not simply for commercial gain.

7. All breeding animals are registered, or will be registered, with either AGS, NDGA, ADGA or IDGR, and that registry affiliation will be made clear to any buyer. Exchange of registration papers will occur in a timely manner.

8. I will keep accurate records of all breedings, shows, and medical care so as to inform others as to my practices.

9. The health of my herd will always take precedence over their standing in any show..

10. My goats represent the Hames & Axle herd in its natural state. I do not use any artificial means to inflate production or appearance.

I agree to follow this code, and provide the best care and service to my animals and my customers.
